Dr Sharland graduated from Sydney University in 1989. He first came to Darwin in 1991 as a registrar in training. 1993 was spent in Belfast working in orthopaedic trauma and obtaining his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland . He returned to Australia and went through the Newcastle Orthopaedic Training Scheme finishing in 1999 then undertaking a shoulder fellowship with Professor Sonnabend at Prince of Wales hospital in Sydney.
In 2000 Dr Sharland was appointed as the director of orthopaedics at Royal Darwin Hospital and he has continued to work as an orthopaedic surgeon at RDH and Darwin Private Hospital since then as well as providing orthopaedic services to Katherine hospital for the past 16 years.
As a long term resident of Darwin Dr Sharland understands the unique circumstances of many Territorians. He prides himself on a comprehensive and attentive approach to patient care from the first visit ,through the hospital stay and to the post-op visits. He is always available in town for any issues.
Dr Sharland’s interests are in arthroscopic surgery of the knee,ankle and shoulder as well as joint replacement of the hip and knee.
